USPA NEWS - This year we will celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the abolition of the death penalty. The legal profession will be at the heart of these celebrations, which will notably take place at the Panthéon (Paris) from October around a dedicated exhibition, organized around Robert Badinter.On this occasion, the National Bar Council, which wishes to show its support for the abolition of the universal death penalty, is fully mobilized by organizing various events to celebrate the work accomplished and continue efforts throughout the world. First, on October 9, 2021, at the Pantheon, the finals of two moot court competitions on the death penalty will be held, the first devoted to young lawyers, the second to student lawyers. Applications are open until September 20.

PANTHEON LAWYER'S ELOOQUENCE CONTEST ON OCTOBER 9-------------------------------------------------------------- This year we will celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the abolition of the death penalty. The legal profession will be at the heart of these celebrations, which will notably take place at the Panthéon (Paris) throughout the month of October around a dedicated exhibition, organized around Robert Badinter. On October 9, 2021, the National Bar Council will organize at the Pantheon the finals of two moot competitions on the death penalty, the first devoted to young lawyers, the second to student lawyers. UPDATE : APPLICATION ARE CLOSED--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To participate in the Competitions, the candidate must send to the CNB (french National Bar), in a single email to the address ServiceCom@cnb.avocat.fr no later than September 20, 2021 midnight: - A 5-minute video (in MP4 format) aiming to present the key points of his plea on the following subject: Advocacy for the universal abolition of the death penalty ("pitch"), - The plan of his argument (1 page in Time New Roman, size 12, line spacing 1, maximum in pdf format), - Proof of registration with a bar (certificate of registration on the roll or copy of the professional card) or with a regional center for professional training of lawyers (valid certificate of education), - The registration form including a photograph of the Candidate and the certificate of right to the image, duly completed and signed, annexed to these regulations, - The following regulations initialed and signed: Regulations - Eloquence competition for lawyers and student lawyers - 40th anniversary of the abolition of the death penalty

The celebration continues on Saturday, October 16 with a solemn ceremony given in honor of this 40th anniversary, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a large round table on the theme "Death penalty: 40 years later, the fight continues everywhere in the world ". This event will be marked by the testimonies of Joseph Fifame Djogbenou, former Minister of Justice of Benin, Cecile Coudriou, President of Amnesty International, but also by the pleadings of the lawyers of the Francophonie in favor of universal abolition. Thanks to the tremendous work of advocates for the Francophonie, associations and politicians, each year we are moving a little further towards universal abolition.
